Phonte Ain’t Happy about Kanye’s 808’s

phonte1.jpgkanye_west.jpg

This was kinda surprising to me:

Via a recent interview, Little Brother’s Phonte surprisingly told an interviewer that he wasn’t feeling West’s attempt at singing, whatsoever. “I’ve heard … pretty much … most of the Kanye West album, and I didn’t like it. I was just like ‘Get the f*** outta here,’” said the rapper.

“I personally did not like the album. I thought it was … I honestly thought it was an act of cowardice. I just think that if you’re gonna make the creative leaps to sing, then really sing. Let your voice come out, and let people hear all the idiosyncrasies in your voice because that’s what makes you uniquely you,” Phonte continued.

According to the rapper, after initially hearing West’s 808s and Heartbreak, he was reminded of another popular artist who utilized the auto-tune effect. Ultimately, Phonte says his tune of the robotic effect takes away from your original voice, and that isn’t a good thing.

“Imagine if Aretha Franklin would’ve used auto-tune over ‘Respect.’ It’s like all the soul and actual grit and emotion would’ve been gone. That’s what it’s like to me. I heard [808s and Heartbreak] and was like ‘Ok, this n**** is just biting T-Pain,’ ” he said.

While he understood what West was trying to do with the album’s release, he felt the way the producer did it should’ve been different. “It’s like he really wanted to do more, but he just really don’t got the talent to do that sh**,” Phonte concluded.

What do ya’ll think about this? I mean I wasn’t feelin Ye’s album either but I dunno if it’s really anyone’s place to speak this away about it. Your thoughts?

Obama’s First Flight on Airforce 1

I just thought this was neat.

Good Ol’ Fashioned Racism

This guy Bill O’Reilly never disappoints on the racist front but I was surprised at Dennis Miller’s commentary.  This video was DEFINITELY an example of “it’s a hip hop thing.”  What are your thoughts on their responses?  Overreacting?  Legitimate?  Bullshit!? Lemme know your thoughts…

Obama Inauguration Day!

inaug-18.jpg
So January 20th was like, one of the most amazing days ever! I left for dc at midnight on tuesday with my peoples of Coup D’etat Brooklyn. A dope clothing company that put together this group trip to DC. Over 200 of us gathered at Santo’s party house all bundled up and set forth ready and excited for the adventure ahead. The first thing I noticed was the diversity in the group. Black, white, Asian, college students, 40 yr-olds, and in between all came together.

We got to DC at about 5am and descended into the dark cold of the city. But immediately when we got into the train station we were greeted with warm smiling faces excited about the occasion set to take place. Word bond, EVERYBODY was friendly. It was Obama fever!

Peep the train ticket!blog1-copy.jpg*

The vibe resonated everywhere! I was dared to get folks krunk on the train…and I can’t refuse a dare soooo…

Once we got off the train we had to walk DUMB far to the great mall in front of the Capital building. It was just a mass of folks walkin, walkin, walkin. Noone really knew where exactly they were going but somehow we made it to the great lawn. We got there around 6:30 hype! We played hand games, sang, huddled together, even did the electric slide and sang “Celebrate good times, COME ON!”

We thought we could thug it out but lemme tell ya, when that cold REALLY set in it was curtains! I thought my toes were for real just gonna break off. So we started walking looking for something like a warming station and I asked one of the “important looking people” and he says, “there’s no warming stations but they’re opening the museum in 10 minutes.” Shut up. Ya’ll they straight opened the Smithsonian museum and let folks camp out amongst ancient artifacts! There wasn’t even any real regulation. They just said, “Come on in and get warm!”

After takin naps and warming we finally explored the museum (I mean why not right?!) They had a great exhibit on the Civil Rights movement that had this ill as speaker set up.

We got warmed up and headed back out into the cold for the big moment…OBAMA’S SWEARING IN!!!

inaug-11.jpginaug1.jpg*

It was really amazing ya’ll. They had big screens with the swearing on em and blasted it over loud speakers. That’s the capital building in the back. I cannot stress how incredibly uncomfortable it was to be there with such cold and so many people but it was like it didn’t matter. Folks were really in a positive place. We were all in the same gang! lol After the swearing in we all moved in swarms to the trains. On the way I snapped some shots of Obama-fare.

Someone was selling this painting. It’s HILARIOUS! Look close. You got your MLK, Obama, Nelson Mandela, Malcolm X, Huey P, and OF COURSE Pac! lol whyyyyy not. I HAD to cop this:)

inaug-sm-1.jpg

I stressed how cold it was right?!?!!? WHY THE HELL IS THIS MAN IN SHORTS?! And TRUST he wasn’t the only person I saw buggin!

inaug-sm-3-fubu.jpg

I have this thing about chronicling any FUBU sightings lol. I dunno why. It’s just funny to me…

inaug-sm-4-hat.jpg

maaaaaaad Obama pins! lol…there were also a SLEW of fur coats. I felt like i was in a Suga Free video at some points. lol On the walk back we went to Domino’s ended up running into some Secret Service officer who then offered to give us a ride to the train. Then it was ANOTHER walk from the train to the bus. I ended up doing stand up on the bus and leading a capella karaoke on the bus ride home, lol. hilarious. i didn’t even know I could DO stand up! It was just an amazing day. Luckily too the group I was with was made up of g’d up chicks and REAL men. No complainers. No bsers. Just trekkers! WE GO HARD!

inaug-sm-2.jpg

This is the beginning of a new era folks. I am proud to say I was there to witness the start of it. I’d love to hear about where ya’ll were when Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States!
