I know I just casually name-dropped Hot Chip’s new single “Ready for the Floor,” which doesn’t actually hit stores until January 28th, yesterday. So I can see how it might seem both repetitive and premature to discuss it again today. But how was I supposed to know that Alexis, Joe, Al, Owen and Felix would unveil the tune’s accompanying video clip almost simultaneously with my post? The effects-heavy spot, loosely based on the visual style of Prince’s 1989 single “Batdance” from the Batman soundtrack (”Ready for the Floor” quotes The Joker’s “you’re my number one guy” line from the film) with vocalist Alexis Taylor (not to be confused with the “vagina power” lady) sporting Two-Face-style Gemini-split Joker makeup as he torments the other band members with dastardly contraptions, debuted yesterday on the NME’s website. As expected, it also showed up on YouTube immediately. Are you ready for the floor?

The band’s next album, their third full-length release titled Made in the Dark is scheduled for a February 4th, 2008 release on EMI in the UK and DFA/Astralwerks here in the United States. I really can’t wait for it. In fact, I think it’s my most anticipated upcoming release in 2008. Which reminds me, I should probably go vote for it in that category in the Okayplayer Music Awards, shouldn’t I?

Since I’m on the subject of Hot Chip, I figure I might as well stick with it for the duration of this post, even if only peripherally. As many of you may already be aware, the band is known just as much for their work as remixers of other artists work as they are their own original compositions. The newest remix I have from the boys is one they did for the tune “Trick for Treat” from Lex Records’ Neon Neon, a duo comprised of Los Angeles-based producer Boom Bip and vocalist/producer Gruff Rhys of Welsh band Super Furry Animals, that features guest-vocals from Spank Rock and Har Mar Superstar. The track is from the band’s Raquel EP, a teaser of sorts for their forthcoming full-length Stainless Style, a New Wave/Electrocrunk concept album based around the rise and fall of automaker John Delorean and featuring a bevy of big-name guests, which is also duo out some time in February of ‘08. It’s one of my more anticipated releases of the new year, so I’m sure I’ll be discussing it again, but for now check out the Hot Chip remix of “Trick for Treat.” Oh, and in case you didn’t know, guests Naeem from Spank Rock and Har Mar Superstar are both quite fond of the potty mouth and nasty talk (two things I try not to post too much of here), so if you’re easily offended or you’re at work you might reconsider clicking the link.

Yes, it’s true, Hot Chip has “got the big beat,” Hot Chip has “got the sound” and as soon as I’m finished with this post I’m gonna go ahead and “get on down.”
