Lauryn Hill in BK, Moby the hip-hopper, Interview with Skillz, Dilated video treats, and Flea Market Montgomery

That thing, that thing…
HERSTORY
• Monday night was historic for Bed-Sty Brooklyn, where the elusive Ms. Lauryn Hill performed a free outdoor concert. Although only lightly publicized, 10,000 eager fans managed to find out and descend upon the heart of Brooklyn. The lucky ones made it in before the cops shut down the two-block radius, and among them was OKPs Candace L. Read her account of the night for the full story.

FROM THE BLOGOSPHERE
• The hard to categorize pop/electronic/dance star-cum-political activist Moby gives us a real treat in his online journal. Read up on his entry entitled “did i ever tell you about my early days as a hip hop dj?” where he relives the glorious days of NYC in the 80s, the club Mars, his infatuation with hip hop, and of course, his gold dookie rope. Scroll down to his next entry where he big-ups moveon.org and their efforts to encourage alternative energy use too. And on the boards, OKP inpulse argues that Moby’s Play is the significant electronic music album to date.

LISTEN
• UGK’s just-released but long awaited Underground Kingz is, apparently, all that’s it’s been hyped up to be. Receiving a 4.5/5 in the Reviews, UGK just may be “one of the best hip-hop albums in years, period.” A bold statement, but OKP writer Adrian Ruhi backs this one up.

READ
• XXL’s fresh new interview with Skillz where he talks about his history as a rapper, his frustration with the music industry, ghostwriting, and of course, the “Rap Ups.” Oh yeah, and his latest effort Million Dollar Backpack, coming soon!

WATCH
• Watch all 12 video snippets from the new Dilated Peoples doc, “The Release Party,” in stores now. These 12 clips are just a taste-a purely delicious appetizer, but not wholly fulfilling without the main course.

BELIEVE
• Now for that next ish. More video treats with “Flea Market Montgomery”- don’t sleep. Skillz may have had some (just due) commentary abgout the ignorant music flooding the radio waves these days, but you can’t deny that this dude is pure genius!
