Little Brother Getsback, Kweli Hot Thing Video, D’angelo & Amy Doing Better, Featured Artist Ledisi, Common Thnx U.

Philly, see Little Brother this Wednesday!
• The official press release went out last Friday annoucning that Little Brother is set to drop their third album titled Getback this fall on the legendary ABB Records. LB’s MySpace gives the official release date as September 25. Fans of rap will find it interesting that the album features a cameo from Lil Wayne, one of the most respected lyricists in the game but one not usually identified with groups like LB.

• Last week we announced that Kweli’s video for “Hot Thing” featuring will.i.am was done and coming. A leaked (and not final) version of the video hit YouTube not long after where a thousand or so people caught a look. The video direction, inspired by the fairly recent commercial series by Hewlett Packard which featured Pharrel and Jay-Z, is well done and continues with Blacksmith’s theme of starting to show more of Kweli’s personality. Check back for the REAL official video on Thursday, August 16th when you can also tune in to BET’s Rap City at 5pm EST/PST to see the official premiere of “Hot Thing” featuring will.i.am.

• D’angelo lovers can take a sigh of relief. He is sorting through his string of encounters with the law and his appearance in court, complete with an entourage and donning a slimmer appearance and tightly braided hair, all seem like positive steps towards what we hope is the return of one our faves.

• Meanwhile, also steady in the tabloids, reports that Amy Winehouse checked into rehab are now said to be untrue as she is recovering from what that second link reports as “a cocktail of heroin, ecstasy, cocaine and the horse tranquiliser ketamine.” YIKES, all at once? That report sounds pretty crazy. We just hope she’s all right but for real, I suppose its unrealistic to ask people to just enjoy her album and STFU about the rest.

• It’s soul time as we begin to promote a new album from New Orleans native Ledisi with Lost in Found out August 28th. Check her out on MySpace where Philly (8/19), NYC (8/31), and Atlanta (9/1) heads should take note of her performance schedule. Ledisi is the new Okayplayer Featured Artist.

• Common shows his gratitude for coming in at #1, courtesy of B.Kyle.
