Jill Scott’s New Movie, Finding Forever Instrumentals, New Talent Contest, J-Live’s EP, R. Kelly’s Not Trapped

• Following in the footsteps of many an OkayArtist-musician-turned-actor, the multi-talented Jill Scott stars in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? Watch the trailer (Jill, you look GORG in that gown!), and see Ms. Scott do her thing alongside Malik Yoba and Janet Jackson among others.

• Next week ONLY, Common’s Finding Forever instrumental album will be sold exclusively on iTunes. DJs, get to downloading (aw c’mon, we know there’s not vinyl but y’all got Serrato!).

• Who will be the NEW TALENT to win this contest? XM and Myspace launch “show US what yA got!” a search for unsigned new Hip-hop music talent. Win the chace to perform at the power summit and an all expense paid trip to XM.

• Hey y’all, keep an open mind! F.Y.I. this record is pure Al Green, all the way. True, there may be one or two guest spots, but this is certainly not a “duets” album. For a sneak peak into the studio session watch this video clip, filmed by ?uestlove.

• J-Live is set to drop a 6 song EP entitled Reveal The Secret featuring production from DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Spinna, Da Beatminerz, Marco Polo and Oddisee. The EP is scheduled for a late October release date. We’re also looking forward to his full length album, Then What Happened, due out in 2008.

• Allhiphop’s rumormill confirms that Kanye West is finished with Graduation. Can’t wait? Read the in-depth review. The album is set to feature a song called “Big Brother” detailing the complex relationship between Ye and Jay Z. The record will also feature Lil Wayne (“Barry Bonds”!), who is also said to be doing a collab with Kanye on The Carter III. And… Lily Allen has a third what?!

• Last night I had the bizarre yet thrilling experience of going to the NYC premiere of R. Kelly’s Trapped In The Closet, chapters 13-22, along with friends Tunde and Jaleel from TV on the Radio. Kellz showed up to intro this work of pure cinematic genius. And no, I’m not being ironic. Ch. 13-22 (apparently he’s written about 35 more chapters already and is only in need of the fundage to shoot them) show R character acting as a pimp, a preacher, a crotchety old man, and he’s as bada$$ and as funny as Eddie Murphy in the roles. In case you’re wondering, TV on the Radio give it two thumbs up.

• R.I.P. Max Roach. Thanks for all the music!!
