NEWS

• The band behind Amy Winehouse’s success, Brooklyn’s own Dap Kings of Dap Tone Records, have a lot going on. In addition to working with Winehouse and Mark Ronson, the Dap Kings introduce you to their own #1 soul lady, Ms. Sharon Jones. Then watch as they take you on a behind-the-scenes tour of their studio. The rumor mill reports that some of the Daps were in the studio to work on the Al Green record too!

• Floetry stepped out in Chicago, introducing a new look with Amanda Diva taking the place of former “floacist” Natalie Stewart. Although the details surrounding the band’s line-up change aren’t clear, one thing is certain, the “new” Floetry fronted by Marsha Ambrosius and Ms. Diva, is sounding as groovy as ever.

• D fodder: A new photo of D’Angelo leaving court emerges! Analysis cannot confirm or deny the possibility that he is flanked by two bodyguards. Discuss amongst yourselves.

NEW MUSIC

• Guru’s back with Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 produced by Solar. Featuring a slew of incredible guests, from Omar to Vivian Green to Slum Village to Blackalicious to Common to Raheem DeVaughn to Dionne Farris (whew!) and there’s still MORE!

• Columbia/Legacy has just released a new Miles Davis album, featuring Santana, entitled Evolution of The Groove. The record also contains a remix of “Freedom Jazz Dance” featuring Nas rapping alongside his pops, Olu Dara, on trumpet.

• Make sure to save up that lunch money this week. Next Tuesday Ledisi drops her latest effort Lost & Found, and we’re definitely copping. Preview some of the songs here to whet your appetite.

• LA, this weekend is the 10th anniversary FreeStyle Session! Both Sat and Sun at Club Circus, come out for freestyle battles with large cash prizes, along with performances by Slick Rick, D.I.T.C., One Be Lo, and more! All ages welcome.
