Roots On VH1 HHH Tour, Common And Q Tip, Kanye And 50 Leakage, Kweli’s Big Week
RE-CAP
First up, a very big week for Talib Kweli who’s Eardrum debuted at #2 on the charts! This week Okayplayer announced our own very special edition of The UnderGRIND, Music Choice’s underground hip-hop video playlist featuring vids from Common, Kweli, Jean Grae, and Hezekiah feat. Bilal. In addition, we’ve got two new interviews with Ledisi who talks about her latest effort Lost and Found, and Aesop Rock who discusses None Shall Pass. We’ve also got a new CONTEST! Win treats from Ben Harper, including his latest release Lifeline, in stores now.
THE NEWS
The Roots are getting ready to rock out on the VH1 Hip Hop Honors Tour, kicking off with dates in early September. This Billboard article details ?uesto’s plans for the tour, a set-list of all-classics, his work with Al Green, and the new Roots album Rising Down.
Rumor has it Common and Q Tip are set to form a hip hop group potentially entiteld The Standard. The two are set to do some touring together in a few weeks, and possibly start recording soon thereafter. We sure hope so.
The big news this week is the leakage. Yep, both Kanye and 50 leaked within 24 hours of each other. Hmm… Coincidence or strategic marketing move? Seems like Lesson-heads are much preferring Graduation over Curtis.
Once again HighVoltage comes through with goodies from Rock The Bells, including live performances by Pharoahe Monch, Immortal Technique, Mos & Kwe, and Rage.
HighVoltage also breaks us off with some treaty-treats from Black August (after a thorough re-cap) which took place in NYC this past weekend. We heart u HV!!
Mos Def is rumored to be in Philly on Baltimore Ave for a free show this Saturday 9/1 for the N2N festival. Pharoahe Monch will be doing the Toronto Urban Music Festival the same day.
And this post? Man, that’s not a BT diss. Listen up as ?uesto (aheeemmmm, I mean “MqLovin”) explains the psychology behind the man.
Enjoy your labor DAY!
