Jill Scott Movie Star, Kweli = Fire, Mark Ronson Squashes Rumors, Prince & Common, RJD2 Interview

• We got word that Jill Scott is finishing up her first lead role in a film entitled No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency where she’s been filming in Botswana all summer. The movie is directed by Anthony Minghella, who also directed Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and The English Patient, and still has no official release date. This isn’t Ms. Scott’s first dip into Hollywood- she co-starred in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married set for release on Oct 12. But fear not, Jilly hasn’t left her music behind! September 25th will see the release of her latest album, The Real Thing. Watch this sneak peak of the rough for her her next single/video “My Love.”

• The talk of the town is still your boy Talib Kweli. We agree, FIRE! Have you copped Eardrum yet?

• Old school Players, we’ve got an Angieee alert! Author and TV producer (and former OKP writer) Angela Nissel was on NPR’s news quiz show this week, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me! Listen to the full episode for free.

• D-d-d-don’t believe the hype. Rumors floating around the blogosphere that Mark Ronson is refusing to work with Amy Winehouse ever again prove FALSE. Well, duh. Peep his myspace blog for further clarification.

• This Okayplayer had me turning green with envy. Read his account of the Common and Prince (yes, you heard correctly) concert in London, with complete jam-out afterparty.

• We all know RJD2 ruffled some feathers with his release of The Third Hand, and album that definitely took his music in a new direction, and strayed from the style he built on his first two records. Many said this wasn’t a record for hip-hop fans. Some disagreed. RJ has maintained a commitment to reinventing himself, a quality most great producers share. Read his interview with Allhiphop.com for more insight.
