Tanya Morgan Live From Vegas, Common Video Behind The Scenes, Meshell in NY, Return of Rakim, KRS Goes Fit Club.
Get Back week continues. Von Pea is a fan. He’s already copped the new Little Brother, have you? Von P promises it’s not as flimsy as that slice of pizza.
In case you didn’t know, Tanya Morgan is not a woman. They are three dudes, Von Pea + Donwill + Illyas and they are serving up real hip hop the way you want it! They describe themselves: “It is the sound of a non-violent M.O.P. who took charm classes at the Handsome Boy Modeling School and had to record an album over the beats that professor Madlib thought twice about using for their final exam.” The group just touched down in Las Vegas for this years Power Summit after winning the Myspace / XM Radio contest (thx for the votes OKPs!). They’ll be performing Friday along with Talib Kweli, Chamillionaire, and the other non-important finalists. OKP will be posting an exclusive blog report from the Summit c/o Donwill so stay tuned!
Go behind-the-scenes with Bkyle, who gives us an insider peek at the making of Common’s new video for “I Want You.” B captures the lovely Alicia Keys and Kerry Washington as they get their act on, along with Kanye crackin jokes. Com breaks down the complexity of the song, and talks about the conflicting emotions that can arise over an ex, especially when there are still feelings involved. Deep. Then lighten the mood as you watch some over-the-top fan love action B chopped up for us.
Com fans, heads up, looks like his former label will be a releasing a “Best-of” Common CD. Entitled thisisme then, the disc is set to include 15 of our favorite tracks and will be in stores on 11/27. The release is a bit suspect though.
NYC, get ready for some bottom-end! Meshell Ndegeocello hits this Saturday at the Highline after a full day of bass-player workshops, including one by Doug Wimbish of Living Colour. (wiki if you don’t know)
The return of Rakim? *fingers crossed* It’s been 8 years since his last solo release, but Rakim is currently finishing up his next release The Seventh Seal which will likely hit stores early next year. In addition he has a live performance DVD and a tour with Ghostface and Brother Ali in the works. Read the full interview and then peep the tour dates at bottom.
KRS-ONE is set to appear on what?? He’s not even fat (well, a lil chubby, but fine!).
