New Interviews w/ Saul Williams & Oh No, Buy Badu’s “Honey,” Nas’ New Single, 2007 OKP Music Awards.
Turkey Day, Moms crib, home cookin’, sports on TV… and that holiday boredom. After you stuff the last bit of Aunt Sally’s potato salad into your belly, sigh, and realize, well, you’re stuck at Moms with nothing to do, we’ve got 2 new in-depth exclusive interviews to keep the boredom at bay! First up, OKP chops it up with Niggy Tardust himself, Mr. Saul Williams. Read his take on music, poetry, acting, the “N” word and more. Next up, Oh No let’s us know that he’s not just Madlib’s lil’ bro. Oh No talks gaming, producing, his favorite music makers, and Dr. No 2?? Bring it!
Lesson-heads, its a holiday special this year. Ms. Erykah Badu will be around for the next few taking and answering your questions, so put down the To-furkey and hit the boards. Be sure to read her responses so far, the snark value is high but there are some really insightful remarks too. Thanks E for all the OKP love! For more Erykah download “Honey” from iTunes. It’s the first single off her next album which OKP just learned will most likely be entitled Nu Amerykah.
A snippet of the first single off the new Nas album (rumored to be entitled “Nigga” and slated for ‘08 release) has surfaced. The general consensus? Time to revisit Illmatic. What are your thoughts?
After the leftovers are all gone and only that sticky red spot of cranberry-goo on your tablecloth remain, don’t fret, the fun’s not over. Nicolay heads out west to spin two DJ sets in Cali, first in San Fran on Nov. 30 and then in LA on Dec. 1. East-coasters, get your academia on. ?uestlove visits Princeton University (Ivy son!) for the first international conference and two-day symposium focusing on the life, career and cultural impact of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member and popular music legend James Brown. Entitled “ ‘Ain’t That A Groove’: The Genius of James Brown,” it all goes down in NJ on Nov. 30.
I guess the idea behind this “No Music Day” concept is that you’re about to indulge yourself in such a sinful manner tomorrow (oh just admit it!) so today you should suffer aural depravation? Still not sure I get it but it’s something to do with the over-saturation of the commercialization of music (which I DO get). So pump OFF the volume, and join the Brits in a day of peace and quiet… if you want. Either way, very interesting article.
Finally, more to look forward to after the Turkey eats are done. We are nearing completion of the voting system for our first ever official Okayplayer Music Awards. There are 27 categories in total, some having as many as ten nominees. Not that we ever thought it wouldn’t, but this has been a lot of work! The voting will launch next Tuesday, November 27th, so get those trigger fingers ready.
Happy munching! - gingerlynn
