ACLU Call To Artists, G.O.O.D. Pictures Debut, Hey Ladies: Jill Scott, Meshell, Santogold, Jack Davey, & Muhsinah.

• Today we are wearing orange as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is calling on artists of conscience to wear orange as we demand the closing of the prison at Guantánamo Bay and an immediate end to six years of injustice. Read more and learn how you too can get involved.

“I am wearing orange to help bring back the dignity our country has lost as a result of Guantánamo. We must join together in solidarity to demand the immediate closure of this shameful prison. It has tarnished America’s image in the world and continues to be a symbol of torture and injustice.”
- Meshell N’degeocello

• If you can’t make it to the World Cafe in Philly this afternoon to watch Meshell N’degeocello perform, fear not. WXPN allows you to listen live online. In NYC? She’s got another concert tonight in Brooklyn at the Williamsburg Music Hall. Don’t forget your tape recorders.

• Initially we planned on world premiering the new video from Consequence for his song “The Good, the Bad, the Ugly” (featuring Kanye West) along with a new journal entry for the Cons man today. However, we are now going to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. In the mean time, read this in-depth article about the first ever G.O.O.D. Pictures production.

• Jill Scott is stacking up the accolades this year for those amazing pipes, and for her new thespian status. Not only is The Real Thing nominated for three Grammy’s, it was announced today that she’s in the running for two NAACP Image Awards for Best Female Artist, and Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance in “Why Did I Get Married.” Do it big Jill. Our fingers are crossed!

• Another Philly queen, Santogold, is on the rise. Rollingstone named her the number one artist to watch in 2008 and she currently blesses the cover of ahead-of-the-curvsters magazine, The Fader. Now read this article on RWDmag.com and get more familiar.

• Jack Davey is fired up to spark an internet movement against the suits in the recording industry. In a post this week on her blog, “The Electronic Mayhem of Jack Davey,” the lead songtress of J*Davey makes a public call for all music makers, pushers, and consumers to change (and therefore revive) this dying game. “Record labels are nothing but banks that give artists hi price loans in exchange for artistic control. Put your money where your cocks are.” Daaamn! Tell it girl. Read the rest of her rant then spread the post to all who’ll listen.

• The music industry may be on the fritz, but here’s an artist that’ll make you believe in the possibilities of refreshing soul music. Muhsinah’s new video, “Construction,” steps outside of the formula delivering a visual and audio package that’ll make you smile. Check it out, and welcome the weekend with some positivity.

Next week, Gingerlynn heads across the Pacific to Japan with The Roots who will be performing in Tokyo and Osaka! Check back then for all sorts of exclusive blogging and photographtastic action.
