Badu pushes our buttons lovely with the shout-outs in her new video
New Gnarls Barkley - “Run.”
You already knew Ms. E Badu was sweet as honey, but did you know she was funky like Chaka? Bad ass like Grace Jones? Paid like Eric B. & Rakim? Watch her brand new video for “Honey” (written and directed by Erykah Badu and co-directed by Chris Robinson) and find out. Discuss in OkayArtist / The Lesson.
The song in the middle of the video, “Annie,” was recorded by and features Edith Funker (Erykah, Doyle Bramhall II, Wendy & Lisa, ?uestlove, James Poyser, Mike Elozondo, Susannah Melvoin, and sometimes special guest DJ Jazzy Jeff ) and does not appear on New Amerykah. The video portion is reminiscent of Andre300’s “Hey-Ya” and pulled of beautifully, if we do say so. “What-up” to keyboard playing Badu, holler.
Murs is ramping up on his bid for the Presidency with his new video for “Better Than The Best.” Meanwhile, over the weekend, tickets went on sale for Murs and Guerilla Union’s 3rd Annual “Paid Dues” indy hip-hop festival (powered by Sandisk) featuring Sage Francis, Little Brother, Dilated Peoples, Jedi Mind Tricks, Living Legends, Hieroglyphics, Boot Camp Clik, Kool Keith, and if you can even imagine, MUCH MUCH MORE! Okayplayer is proud to yet again be a media partner with Guerilla Union for this year’s Paid Dues and Rock The Bells festivals so stay tuned for on-going coverage and information.
Along with Murs, Inglewood, California’s own U-N-I is helping hold down the West Coast scene with their new album Fried Chicken and Watermelon. Check the new video for “Beautiful Day“
More video news. The World Premier of Skillz‘ “Crazy World” video happens RIGHT HERE this week. We aren’t sure what day yet. Kweli told us that he will be seeing the final edit for his “Hostile Gospel Pt. 1″ video (shot in South Africa) this week so that is coming soon.
According to Kanye’s blog, looks like N.E.R.D. will be joining in on the fun that will be the US Glow In the Dark Tour. The entry also features a banging new song called “Everybody Nose.” For more new N.E.R.D., check out the commercial for Louis Vuitton’s Blason collection of fine jewelry designed in collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Camille Miceli.
In a shift from their previous two releases, The Roots‘ Rising Down is STACKED with guest appearances. In addition to crew regulars Dice Raw, Truck North, P.O.R.N. and yes, Malik B, confirmed guests include: Mos Def, Common, Kweli, Peedi Peedi, Styles P, Wale, Patrick Stump, Mercedes Martinez, Chrisette Michelle.
