• In more birthday news it would have been Bob Marley’s 63rd bday yesterday. In honor of the legend, Jamaica has declared February “Reggae Month” and the celebrations will go on all month. Look at this calendar for a full list of all of the global celebrations, and get a sense of the breadth of his influence. Bob Marley truly touched the whole world with his music and his message. Watch out for Africa Unite, a documentary about the Marley family’s first trip to Ethiopia in commemoration of what would have been Bob’s 60th birthday in 2005. The film includes rare Bob Marley footage, and takes us to the Marley clan’s 12 hour concert in Addis Ababa.

• Erykah Badu wigs out! For her first ever photo shoot with Giant Magazine, E Badu gets seriously glammed up. Make sure you peep these stunning photos while you wait for New Amerykah to drop! For her next trick, Erykah will appear on the cover of Billboard.

• A lot is going on this weekend. In addition to the glitz and glam of The Grammys, we’ve got The Roots Annual Grammy Jam Session in LA (I’ll be reporting in with photos and news) and <a href=”http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=1558739&mesg_id=1558739&page=

• Detroit, the Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting a show of Alexander Melamid’s hip-hop portraits. The Russian-born painter is best known for his collaborative work with Vitaly Komar and has quite a revolutionary past, at one time having his work destroyed by the Soviet government. He became interested in hip-hop thanks to his son Danny “Dan The Man” Melamid, a hip-hop video director, and was inspired to paint portraits of some of hip hop’s heroes including Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Common, Kanye West, and Reverend Run.
