Kweli La Rock, Amy Phones It In, Can’t Stop Cons, The Roots X Rik Cordero, Odd Couple Cover, NY’s Finest.

This has nothing to do with today’s news. We just thought it was cool. By definitivedoodle.
• Big Daddy Kane has signed on to be one of the producers of the forthcoming Juice Crew bio-pic The Vapors. Inspired by the true life story of Kane, Marley Marl, Biz Markie, and Roxanne Shante along with MC Shan and others, Vapors is still in the process of casting all the roles. Okayplayer has learned that Talib Kweli has been offered to play the role of Scott La Rock, and is likely going to accept. Big Daddy Kane will also be taking on an acting bit in the upcoming romantic comedy Love For Sale.

• As suspected following a slew of dramatic events and run-ins with the law in the UK, Amy Winehouse was denied visa by the U.S. Embassy and therefore will not be performing in person at the Grammy Awards this Sunday. However, it has been announced that she will performing via satellite. Recent photos posted on Perez show homegirl looking much better. Let’s hope she can keep it up. Amy is up for six awards this weekend and is expected to win.

• Consequence is a self promotion MACHINE! Props to the kid who just does not stop hustling and not only that, stays major with everything he puts out. Okayplayer will yet again have the pleasure of World Premiering ANOTHER video off Don’t Quit Your Day Job with “Feel This Way” featuring John Legend. It’s all going down on Valentines Day (next Thursday) followed by the premiere party at Negril Chelsea in Manhattan.

• As much as Cons is racking up hella points for Hustler Of The Year (we need to add that category to our Awards for ‘08), the cool cat behind many of his videos makes the volume and frequency of the releases possible. Check out the video interview with Director Rik Cordero from Mass Appeal which features behind the scenes footage from the Kidz in the Hall’s “Drivin’ Down The Block” video and some commentary from Rik on his last video with Joell Ortiz and the infamous “Blue Magic” trailer.

• The Roots recently tapped Rik to direct two straight to Web videos for their soon to be leaked ‘blog bangers,’ the first of which will is called “Get Busy” featuring Dice Raw and Peedi Crakk.

• More bits and pieces of Gnarls Barkley’s sophomore effort have been leaked to the Web. Check out the album cover for The Odd Couple. The street date is currently slated for April 15.

• NYC peeps, today’s the day for you get your cameo on as Pete Rock shoots a video for his song “‘Till I Retire” with an outro of “Best Believe” featuring Redman. Later this month see Pete Rock live with Wale, Torae, and Kid Cudi at the Highline Ballroom February 28. Presented by LiveNDirect and Okayplayer.

• To the West Coast. Our fam The Coup will play the Nectar Lounge in Seattle tonight along with American Hero and Orbitron who’s album B-Boy Universal just received a glowing 4 out of 5 in reviews.

Have a good weekend! See you tonight, in honor of Dillla. Good luck to Common, Jill, and Amy at the Grammy Awards this weekend.
