• The first look at Rising Down, The Roots‘ 10th LP due out April 29th on Def Jam, comes in the form of a stripped down, one verse/no chorus, lyrical assault from Black Thought over a sharp ?uestlove drum break and analog sounding bass. The song is appropriately titled “75 Bars (Black’s Reconstruction)” and can be heard for the first time below… Neck brace not included.

The Roots - “75 Bars (Black’s Reconstruction)”
The traffic is killing us so we’re sending you off site, lol.

• The first bit of press has surfaced with this article from Entertainment Weekly which goes inside Rising Down track by track.

• Coming off “75 Bars” which we like to joke sets a record for most times the N-word is used per measure in one song, Nas speaks out about his new album of the same name in this interview on Jamie Foxx’s radio show where we hear the Queens emcee explain and defend his choice. Get in on the discussion and tell us your thoughts!

• Erykah Badu has returned like that total eclipse of the moon Wednesday. Check out our exclusive photos from her listening event that same night at the Alex Grey gallery compliments of our boy HUMAN. Then read this great article and interview just published in Badu’s home town paper, the Dallas Observer. Unless you’ve been living in a 5 month DMT haze, you have to know that New Amerykah is in stores EVERYWHERE this coming Tuesday.

• For anyone who missed Erykah on BET’s 106 & Park, WSHH swiped and posted the 6 minute interview. You have to click through some annoying ads and get over the fact that they jacked OnSmash, but it’s a good clip.

• Resident photographer Mel D. Cole hit up Kweli’s on going In The Mood party last night where Kwe and Res performed a few joints from their new project Idle Warship and partied down in general. Check ‘em out here.

• J.Period and Truelements are definitely looking out for the OKP fam. For a limited time, you can cop the Complete J.Period “Best Of” Collection, stuffed with joints from Lauryn, Nas, The Roots, and Big Daddy Kane plus a ton of bonus remixes and digital 12” exclusives. The best part? All of these classics are packed into a 1gB flash drive for only forty bucks.

• Hey NYC, tonight The Roots host a double header at the famed Apollo in Harlem. We hear there are still some tickets left so come through! Tomorrow night, DJ ?uestlove returns to the Hiro Ballroomso dust off the snow and warm up those buns to the sounds of the legendary selectah!
