New Gnarls Via ?uesto, Jay Elect x Badu x URB x Vimby x Boundless, New Idle Warship, Videos, Badu In NY Times.
just in time for march
This morning we got treated to the second single from The Odd Couple (4/8), the highly anticipated sophomore offering from Gnarls Barkley, with “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul.” The song’s premiere presentation comes in the form of a homemade video by our very own ?uestlover. Apparently the Afro liked the track so much he insisted on being the one to leak it to the Web first. Between this and “Run” (for which the video premiered last week), The Odd Couple is really shaping up to be another great listen from GB.
Shout out to Vet OKP mika_muyo for hipping us to this video of Jay Electronica and Erykah Badu from URB Magazine’s cover shoot / Jay Elect feature / Next 100 issue compliments of VIMBY (Video in My Back Yard). Back in January we noticed (but did not link to) some behind-the-scenes snaps from the shoot, held at Brooklyn’s own Boundless boutique, on The KDU blog. Judging from the video, the spread looks hot. Check for the King Stampede X Okayplayer t-shirt collabo coming this summer.
Talib Kweli is always one to stay busy. Check out a new joint from his Idle Warship project (Res & Kweli) with “Screamin” featuring MC Chris, via NahRight. Photos courtesy of Village Slum and Okayplayer. In related news, Kweli appears twice on The Roots‘ Rising Down (4/29) singing the hook on the afro-beat infused BANGER “Apologize” as well his own verse on a song called “Lost Desire” which also stars Malik B.
An entertaining moment from LiveNDirect and Okayplayer’s Pete Rock NY’s Finest release party concert was caught on video when OKP fam Rhymefest took the stage to fill the void between the Torae and W.A.L.E. sets. ‘Fest cued up his track “Brand New” which features Kanye West and invited anyone from the crowd to do Ye’s verse. To the crowd’s pleasure, a white cat wearing pleated khaki’s brazenly stepped to the plate and knew every word. Photos from the event courtesy of Village Slum and Okayplayer.
As Def Jam remains without a President since the departure of Jay-Z, our friends at The Real stay buggin’ out with their latest sketch “Electability: The Supreme Hustle.” Wow.
Yesterday the NY Times printed this very interesting up-close interview / article with Erykah Badu on the heels of the release of New Amerykah. If you haven’t copped yet (shame!) then today is the last day to contribute to the ever so important first week numbers. Late last Friday we slipped a link to the cover of the next issue of Trace Magazine featuring E and bare chested Q-Tip into the update.
And lastly, to start the week right, we have our family Filthy and Kristy with their latest installment of “Baby . . . What Do You Think?” where they offer up some hilarious celebrity female fashion commentary.
Happy Monday.
