The Roots Get Stumped, Skillz ft Com, Kweli ft Joel Ortiz & Blu, Cube ft Scarface & Nas, Lupe ft T.I. & Jeezy, RZA ft Deck, Bun B ft Lupe, R.I.P. B.I.G., Dogg Day Tomorrow.
• For the past two week’s we’ve been revealing “one new thing from The Roots” every Friday, giving you pieces of the Rising Down puzzle as we gear up for the official release on April 29th. Well, it looks like Friday came early this week. Apparently a Fall Out Boy fan got their hands on The Root’s cut “Birthday Girl,” featuring Patrick Stump, and leaked it via this video. The song, slated to appear last on the album, is much different than the hard hitting “75 Bars” and “Get Busy” joints demonstrating once again how diverse The Roots can be. Word in one of those threads is that there are some other homemade video clips featuring “Birthday Girl” floating around.
• Looks like Common returned the favor to Skillz after DJ Premiere sampled the formerly mad emcee for the hook on Common’s “The Game.” Check out “So Far So Good,” new from Skillz ft Common off Million Dollar Backpack.
• The video for Talib Kweli’s “Hostile Gospel Pt. 1″ recently made it’s debut on 106 & Park. Check out the remix featuring Joell Ortiz & Blu.
• How come I can’t find posts on the boards about:
- Ice Cube’s “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It” remix featuring Scarface and Nas,
- Lupe Fiasco’s “Superstar” remix featuring Young Jeezy & T.I.,
- the RZA’s “You Can’t Stop Me Now” featuring Inspectah Deck,
- or Bun B’s “Swang On Em” (snippet) featuring Lupe Fiasco?
Props to 2dopeboyz, Nahright, and Che Sing.
• Eskay has got a nice Bun B round up post on Nahright featuring interviews, pics, and audio.
• Yesterday was the anniversary of the Legendary B.I.G.’s death. The 2dopeboyz blog has reposted two mixtape tributes from last year with “Best Of Biggie 10th Anniversary Edition and “HipHopDX Presents - Brooklyn’s Finest: Best of Biggie.” Meanwhile, our friends at The Real have some fun with their “Auditioning’s No B.I.G. Deal” video.
• Is anyone excited for the release of Snoop Dogg’s Ego Trippin tomorrow? It’s been a long minute since he hit us with the instantly classic “Sensual Seduction” and I’ve liked everything I’ve heard so far.
• ?uestlove spoke with The Chronicle Online last month about his doo-wop roots, collaborating with the greats of soul music, and what fans can expect from album number 10. “This album is more like your Friday-night, what-the-F–is going-to-happen-this-weekend record.” Nuff said.
