To them all, I say… bong bong!

• You all know the saying… behind every good man there’s a strong woman ;). For Dilla, it was his momma, a powerfully inspiring woman known to the hip hop community as Ma Dukes. After you peep the fresh artwork (up to Donald Ely) read Schememag’s in-depth interview with Maureen Yancy where she talks growing-up-Dilla, Jay Dee’s music making from the crib, Detroit, the music biz, and her struggle with Lupus.

• Congrats to Jill Scott who’s movie The #1 Ladies’ Detective Agency just got picked up by HBO. The two hour film which was shot on location in Botswana will serve as the series pilot and is slated to air on the BBC in the UK later this month. They will begin filming the 13 one-hour episodes (starring Jilly) which will comprise the mini-series this summer.

• Another songstress who is exploring her theatrical side, India.arie, is slated to star in the first-ever revival of the classic Ntozake Shange “choreopoem” For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf. The Broadway play, produced in part by Whoopi Goldberg, is set to open this summer. Although she’s had very limited acting experience we all know India’s performance game is on point and we’ve got confidence she’ll shine on the big stage.

• In case you missed it yesterday, Talib Kweli and Mick Boogie have just released a new mixtape entitled MCEO. Download this one for FREE and hear exclusives featuring Ne-Yo, Joell Ortiz, Jean Grae, Busta Rhymes and many more. Also peep this video interview with MCmogul Kwe where he claims the MC always comes first, ahead of the CEO! Then take it to the boards and let us know how you’re feelin the mixtape.
