Dizzee On MTV, The Roots Picnic, KITH Interview, Redman In The Studio, 9th In ATL, Philly Tonight!
Last night I was chopping it up with El P who informed me that Def Jux has their first ever video on rotation on MTV proper! It’s Dizzee Rascal with “Where’s Da G’s” featuring Bun B, off Dizzee’s Maths + English. The album, released in Europe last year, will be re-released here in the U.S. next month courtesy of Definitive Jux, with a few added extras on the record. We’re loving the video.
Dantana spilled the beans yesterday about the official Roots festival set for this summer. “The Roots Picnic” will take place in Philly, and confirmed performers include Gnarls Barkley, Sharon Jones And The Dap Kings, Deerhoof, Diplo, and Esperanza. We’ve seen the rest of the line-up and it’s equally as sick. Because they are now putting on an entire festival of their own, The Roots won’t be able to do the Popped Fest gig, however there is chatter that a full live performance of Things Fall Apart could still happen. When you cop your tix, please send a note to Ticketmaster to find a new photo!
We gave you a quick Kidz In The Hall update yesterday. Today, for a full in-depth interview, hit up whateversgood.com and see what’s next for the Kidz.
Get up in the studio with Redman as he spits his verse on the KRS-One track “Self Construction.” After a few do-overs, your boy nails it. After, peep the interview below where Red talks new Red and Meth Black Out 2 for the summer, working with Primo, Queen Latifah, and more.
If you can get past the loud noise and discern what 9th Wonder is saying, this interview, conducted in ATL, is worth the watch. According to 9th, his mission is clear; “I just wanna preserve black music”. We hope he keeps doing what he’s doing. And the Jeezy drive-by (in his Ferrari nonetheless) is classic.
D.C., word is that there’s a De La Soul concert happening tonight, featuring 9th Wonder on the 1s and 2s, at 8:30pm! Get there early if you want in. Philly, it’s time for those good vibes at Rice & Peas, the roots Reggae party happening tonight at Fluid. With DJ Gravy, Max Glazer, and a birthday celebration for Kenny Meez, it’s sure to be hot and steamy in the club. Get out of the cold and come through. First, download Gravy’s mixtape for your listening pleasure.
You know the Spitzer jokes have gone too far once they start bringing Scott Storch into it.
