• The Roots had a long day in NYC yesterday which started with rehearsals for their performance on David Letterman, followed by the actual throw-down which even had Dave jumping out of his seat. The crew then headed to Sirius Radio for three hours of: live performances, on-air calls from fans, and to chop it up with Green Lantern and DJ Premier on their #1 Hip-Hop Nation show. The surprise of the evening came from an impromptu performance from David Banner with the “Like A Pimp” freestyle remix (dedicated to Sean Bell. Shout out to Angela and Leah at Lip Service). Following all the on-air ruckus, the gang headed to the release party celebration downtown where Mos Def, Black Thought, and Dice Raw rocked the mic over ?uesto cuts into the wee hours. Check in with Gingerlynn’s full recap and photos from the whole day including video of The Roots on Letterman and the full audio download of their appearance on Hip-Hip Nation.

• These days it’s kinda rare that a Tuesday comes and there are TWO new albums that need to be purchased. So WALK to the music store today and for the equivalent of the 4 gallons of gas money you were about to blow (that’s barely an exaggeration) go buy Rising Down AND 9th Wonder and Buckshot’s album The Formula which both are in stores today. Also make sure to check out this exclusive Okayplayer 9th Wonder and Buckshot interview. In case we haven’t beat you over the head with this enough here’s the new video for “The Formula”, the latest single from 9th and Buck off the album.

• Sweeney just posted an interview with Blu where he talks about the creation of C.R.A.C. and how he and Ta’Raach first hooked up. Apparently he’s got some more projects on deck to release this year, including a movie. The Piece Talks is in stores now.

• We found this new video from Mickey Factz which is the official video for the remix to “Rockin N Rollin” featuring The Cool Kids.

• While doing some more board surfing we found a new interview with Detroit MC Guilty Simpson. It’s a pretty thorough interview talking about being J Dilla’s protege, working with Jay Electronica, and a new album in the works with Guilty, Sean Price and Black Milk (It gets no more gutter than that). Guilty is one of the faces leading a new charge out of The D and his new album Ode to the Ghetto is in stores now on Stones Throw Records.

• Looks like The Lo (formerly Camp Lo) are back on the scene after recently signing a deal with SRC/Universal records. Sonny Cheeba and Geechie Suede haven’t really made much noise in awhile, but this new single they’re leading off with “Lumdi” is knockin, been bumpin this one for a minute.

Del Tha Funkee Homosapien hits up AOL music for their 16 Bars segment where he breaks down the art of the freestyle. Watch him spit his more than his 16, and then peep the exclusive video interview where Del talks about his music, keeping it real, his influences (Parliment Funkadelic, but of course), and making a record.
