Day 1 - LA: I touched down in LA & we hit the ground running. TM, Dom from IM and the DC homeys Monica & BJ picked me up in our baller ass van and we rolled right over to meet up with my boy Brett at the Estate LA store to get some of the freshest hats out (thanks again homey) for the trip. From there we rolled over to the venue (the infamous El Rey), where some dude who wasn’t up on TM was all hyped that DJ Low Key was at the Hiero show (how he knows me but not Tanya still confuses me). Anyways, the show was the shit, mad heads were in the crowd singing every word and being geeked off watching Hiero rock from on-stage. Also, alwayshustle.com caught some dope video of us rocking, make sure to check it here.Day 2 - San Diego: Next stop was SD. We rolled down with Opio (check out his new album, Vulture’s Wisdom, it’s RIDICULOUS) for an in-store at legendary indie hip hop store, Access Music, before heading over to the show at Belly Up. San Diego/Solona Beach is a BEAUTIFUL area, it’s kinda hilly and when you go over these hills you get these awesome views of the beach (such a tease since we didn’t have any time to chill). Anyways, the show was dope, I got to meet some fans who’d been in touch with me online for a while before rushing back to the hotel to get ready for a long drive to Vegas the next day.
that shirt there is a one of one which means none before it and none to come…
i think we have found the answer to all of our internet needs. the soundcheck! the thing that has probably been the hardest the entire time we have been on the road is finding (and efficiently using) the internet. well taking a cue from our homies the blue scholars we have learned that every venue in america has fantastic wi fi* and is more than eager to let us use it. all the time we spent in the luxurious motel 6’s across america searching for open signals and the days of the password protected blues are over… WE BACK ONLINE BITCHES!!!
first off lemme explain something to the ladies, just like yall have tampon machines in your public restrooms we got condom machines. now i wont lie man, ive seen many a condom machine in my day but when you add 20 minute waits at a rest stop in the mojave desert (i think it was the mojave) with a pocket full of change and a slight case of cabin fever and you got a man hell bent on getting the most admirable assortment of novelty condoms in the world.
okay technical difficulties have kept us offline (man aint NO damn internet in the middle of the country! whoddathunkit!?!) but never ones to be held down im broadcasting live from a diner in new mexico to bring you a lil performance footage that has been making its way around the internets..
so since i left you guys last we have been to hollywood, san diego, las vegas and are headed to hot ass arizona, tempe to be exact. there hasnt really been alot of time to blog and there has been even less internet connectivity BUT im a picture snappin, video tapin mofo so you know i got them good updates coming soon! just bear with us…
no pictures this go round cause sh*t was hectic…first show of a tour with so many acts on it and youre meeting all of them that night, and trying to get your soundcheck and trying to find out where you set your merch up and trying to etc etc etc etc etc…yeah we forgot to get a picture. lol…
so we got there first, then tajai, dj toure, and domino got there and started setting up. after that everyone started rolling in. the venue was an all ages spot so they had like, pizza and soda and candy and shit. im used to performing at 21+ venues with a bunch of drunks so it was…cute! reminded me of the skating rink. with that said, one young kid was WILDING. someone said he was high, i dont know what kind of high that was but he reminded me of that kid in smoking aces that was doing karate in the bathroom. i think he was on pills or something…he was at the merch table like “SIGN MY SHIT! SIGN IT!!!!!!! WHO HAS A MARKER I CAN BUY?” but it wasnt excitement it was like roid rage or something. scary.
we perform 1st then knowbody musab blue scholars and hiero. theres an MC but i think he was running late so we just walked on stage and turned the cd on (our dj, dj low key, doesnt get in town til today) and started rappin. as boring as that may sound they liked us…especially when we did “cuddle bums” and “and you say”. im still bugging off of there being so many teenagers at the show, because we’ve never performed for a room of teenagers before. that was cool as hell though.
so anyway keep tuning in to the kyte player, come to the show when we’re in tour part of town, be there early so you can catch us, and then come buy some shit! HA!
Here is a short exerpt from a recent interview we did for a gaming website (i know right? go figure…) the questions and answers were pretty damn cool. Here is a brief exerpt:
UGO.com: Has it been a pain to continually address the confusion over the group name, especially since hip-hop fans love to characterize everything? Donwill: It’s a nice barometer because you can tell when a person is genuinely interested in what we’re doing and when they’re not. Like for instance, a person who loves it and gets it, they’ll remember Tanya Morgan. The person that doesn’t necessarily love it or get it, they might say some sh*t like “Tracy Morgan.” People play themselves out a lot. They’ll be like, “Yeah, I heard that shit, she cool, man. She does some dope shit.” It’s a nice barometer in that respect.
you all may be asking yourself “what does that picture have to do with tanya morgan and hiphopdx?!?!” well the day of said interview the lessondary (our crew at large) ended up at the LRG loft party gettin our chicken, waffles and courvoisier on. in between the models and bottles we found a quiet enough spot to patch into a conference line with Jake Paine to discuss the goings on in the world of Tanya Morgan..
and to explain the title of the article, ill post this question…
DX: Knowing how hard you guys work at your craft, how difficult is it for you when so many of you’re own fans are aspiring rappers, producers or industry card-passers? Is that frustrating?
Von Pea: [Laughs] It can be. You’re doing your music and your doing your music, and a lot of people, instead of saying, “Yo, I like what you’re doing, I want to come to your show,” they’ll be like, “Yo, how’d you get that show?” “I like that beat. I need a beat like that.” “We need to do something together, it’ll be a good look.” Everything is about a damn look! Oh, it’s a good look? “This is a movement.” We’re going on tour with Hieroglyphics in July [click to read], and a lot of people are like, “That’s a good look.” Not “I’m gonna come to the show.” They’re saying, “Yo, that’s a good look. Can I open up? Put me through.” Everybody just wants to know how you can pull them to where you are. It ain’t even about pulling up anymore; everybody is being pulled side-to-side.
we go to great lengths to ensure that your money is well spent when you support the boys of tanya morgan. i mean dope music is a must but what fun is it if you cant top your ‘fit off with an ill concert tee? exactly… Read More »
i found this clip floating around on a few of myfavoriteblogs so i figured id bring it home and hang it on our cyberwall. von pea and myself (this is don) dropped by the POW radio show and chopped it up for about 2 hours then did what got them interested in interviewing us in the first place, rapped.
